Duck Tales (NES)
Description
DuckTales is a platformer game developed and published by Capcom, based on the beloved Disney animated TV series. Released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989 and subsequently ported to the Game Boy in 1990, the game captures the adventurous spirit of Scrooge McDuck as he embarks on a global and extraterrestrial quest for treasure.
In the game, players control Scrooge McDuck, who is on a mission to outsmart his rival Flintheart Glomgold and secure his title as the world’s richest duck. The gameplay involves navigating Scrooge through various exotic and dangerous locations including the African mines, the Amazon, the Himalayas, Transylvania, and even the Moon, in search of five legendary treasures.
Scrooge’s primary tool and weapon is his cane, which he uses to attack enemies, break open or throw objects, and bounce like a pogo stick. This pogo stick action not only allows him to defeat enemies from above but also enables him to traverse hazardous areas and reach higher platforms.
Throughout his journey, Scrooge collects diamonds to increase his wealth and ice cream to restore health. He encounters several characters from the DuckTales series who either help by providing hints and items, or hinder by trying to stop him. The game includes a secret cheat for restoring health at a cost of $3,000,000 by pressing the select button while stationary.
“DuckTales” features five main levels, each ending in a boss fight to win a treasure. The player can tackle these levels in any preferred order, though revisits to the African mines and Transylvania are necessary to collect crucial items. Hidden within these levels are two secret treasures that add to the gameplay’s depth. After collecting all main treasures, the game culminates in a final showdown in Transylvania against Dracula Duck, followed by a race against Glomgold and Magica DeSpell for the ultimate treasure.
